I hope this e-mail finds you past and present CNW members happy and healthy, and looking forward to the New Year!
This e-News will be brief, since I am coming off of 15 days on the road in recent weeks, starting with the NCAA Division II cross country meet (Falcons and Vikings kicked some butt!), the USATF Annual Meeting (big organizational changes, with more emphasis on athletes and athlete & member programs), and National Club Cross (great results for your team, recapped below!)

The December 14th board meeting was postponed to the 21st. Your board was very exhausted after many of us traveled to Lexington, Kentucky, for Club Nationals. We welcome any member at the meeting -- just let us know in advance, so we can order more pizza!! Don't forget the annual meeting coming up in March!

Our 14th Annual New Balance Winter Grand Prix, sponsored by Super Jock 'n Jill, started on Saturday, December 5, at Magnuson Park. Nearly 150 participants ran the initial cross country race -- check the web site for complete results. It's not too late to register for the series, with great prizes at the end from your sponsors. All races are at 9 a.m., and this Saturday's event is our first two-mile road race of the 2009-2010 series, with some fun random prizes. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. at the picnic shelter on the lake shore by the Kite Hill parking lot. More information is on the web site. Our two January races are on the 9th (cross country alumni day) and 23rd (prediction-time road run).

This Saturday, December 19, you can participate in a two-fer! We are hosting the Winter Grand Prix at 9 a.m., followed by the sixth Magnuson Series race, our 5k solo, 5k team, 10 solo, 10k relay, 500m kids run, and walk, at 10 a.m. (The kid's dash begins at 9:45 a.m.) Registration will be at the picnic shelter on the lake shore nearest to the Kite Hill parking area. The series has been receiving very good reviews from our participants! But we could use more word-of-mouth to reach groups who wish to run relays and team races!

Informally dubbed the "Trip 'n Drip," the annual Resolution Run -- enlivened several years ago with the addition of the plunge into Lake Washington's chilly winter waters -- promises to set a record this year for both overall entrants and those who take the plunge! Your current Club membership gets you a whopping discount for the pre-registration into the race, so we hope to see a lot of you there on New Year's Day, whether you take the "dry" road, or the detour to the finish line through the boat launch ramp and get your hair wet. Sign up through the link on our web site, and indicate the member code "CRes10" to get the discount! Remember that the discount is not available on race day!

If you aren't in a winter running mood, you can still have fun -- and usually earn a shirt and some grub -- by volunteering for our events. Reply to me if you'd like to help at any of the events above!! Coming soon -- a USATF officiating class for our members, to enable you to work your favorite high school or college events, or help at our summer all-comers!

We'd like all members to feel proud to wear the CNW orange jersey, and would encourage you to go to our merchandize section of our web page to order one through PayPal. More orange is better!!

Chuck Bartlett, team manager, and Shelley Neal, Teams vice president, put together a great experience for our teams in Lexington, and our teams responded with the following results:
-- Women's 40-49 team, led by Karen Steen and Alyssa Tower, WON!
-- Women's 50-59 team placed second, tied on points with first-place and losing on the tiebreaker.
-- Men's 40-49 team placed eighth.
-- Men's 50-59 team placed second by only one point.
-- Open Women placed eighth, led by a great 8th-place individual finish by Rose Wetzel!
-- Open men placed sixth, with Mark Mandi and Mike Sayenko finishing 14th and 15th. The team matched last year's performance without Joe Gray, who was representing the USA at a world mountain race in Europe.
Thanks as well to Tom Cotner and Saul Kinderis for their help with the arrangements and management. Over 100 clubs participated in the four championship races. This is the same event which will be in Charlotte, NC, next year, and then arrives in Seattle for the 2011 version on December 10 at Jefferson Park Golf Course!
Great results, great races, and -- we hope -- a great 2010 coming up fast! See you at a meeting or an event!
