On December 10 CNW team member Willie Richardson raced at the 2011 Club Nationals Cross Country Championships. The following Wednesday he donated one of his kidneys to his nephew. I am happy to report that all are doing well following the surgeries. In Willie’s own words: “My kidney jump-started my nephew's system renal system like a new battery.” It’s stories like this that keep us grounded and remind us that running is not the most important thing in life. Willie wishes to thank all his friends at CNW for their support.
Speaking of Club Nationals, Club Northwest (CNW) athletes really shined, putting on perhaps the best overall club performance at the event. 104 CNW runners competed. The “A” teams finished as high as 1st and no lower than 6th. The women’s open team was 4th, the W40 1st, and the W50 2nd. For the men, the open team was 6th, M40 5th, M50 1st, and M60 4th. Congrats to all. And a HUGE thank you to our own Bill Roe, who did his usual stellar job organizing the event.
CNW team member Ray Prentice and a small group of individuals completed a 4 year project to refurbish the Mt. Rainier High School Track in Des Moines, WA. Ray led the effort which included building community/local support, fund raising, grant writing, and getting local leaders involved from the school board, the city of Des Moines/Normandy Park, the legislative and King County.
Also, of note, CNW held its 2nd annual winter solstice run On December 21st in Redmond, 4 pubs in 4 miles.
