An Invitation to You!
One of the things that all North American cities have in common is the love for sport. In 2005, Canada will once again be the host country to a major international sports event – the World Masters Games – to be held July 22 – 31, 2005 in Edmonton.
It will be 20 years since the Games were last held in Canada. Toronto hosted the inaugural World Masters Games in 1985 and since then the Games have been in Herning/Aalborg/Aarhus, Denmark; Brisbane, Australia; Portland, USA and Melbourne, Australia.
The World Masters Games have grown to be the largest international multi-sport event in the world. The Edmonton 2005 World Masters Games anticipates 16,000 athletes – some elite, most recreational – will take part in these upcoming Games tha t celebrate sport for life. World Masters Games are all about participation. There are 27 sports to choose from. For most sports, the only qualification is that you meet the minimum age requirement (average minimum age is 30). Passion qualifies you.
We see great potential and value in engaging Seattle’s sport, recreation and media communities in these upcoming Games. In cities where we know some of its citizens have taken part in past Masters Games, we are also approaching these Masters Athletes to be champions of these Games.
